Revitalized Medvedev Secures Maiden Trophy in Over Two Years

19 of Medvedev's twenty-one championships have been earned on hard courts

A comeback Daniil Medvedev won his maiden title for 882 days with victory over opponent Moutet in the tournament title decider.

The athlete, a former number one, has endured a difficult period, winning just one win at the Grand Slams and suffering a meltdown at the American major.

Medvedev's unpredictability on the ATP Tour - and struggles with his serving in particular - resulted in him dropping out of the world's top 10 and eventually separating with long-time trainer his previous coach.

Presently training with Johansson and his other coach, he has steadily advanced in the past month - peaking in a hard-fought competitive triumph over challenger Corentin Moutet.

This represents the player's initial title following the 2023 Rome Masters and maiden on a hard court after spring of the previous year.

Victory also indicates the Russian has achieved twenty-one victories at 21 different tournaments.

"This marks the first occasion I'm at a competition with my both daughters at once, so to win a trophy is particularly special," commented world number 14 Medvedev.

"This victory is in tribute of my second daughter my daughter, because the maiden victory I achieved when my child Alisa was delivered was for her."

The tennis star, the former major winner, had been defeated in his past six championship matches, featuring in the German tournament in the past months.

The player's retrieving approach and frequent reactions on court had prompted commentators to doubt if his capacity to play at the highest level was concluded.

However the player has made changes in the last few weeks, making an effort to come to the net and compete positively, supported by an enhanced service.

He recovered from a disadvantage in the initial set against the challenging opponent, securing 4 of the final five points to take the lead.

The pair swapped breaks in the following set before the Frenchman, striving for his first ATP Tour victory, took control to create a third set.

The opponent saved four initial opportunities in a tight third set before Medvedev won the break to 15 to close out the victory.

Fittingly, Medvedev secured the win with a shot at the net, with his opponent incapable to manage a return after two hours and 38 minutes.
